It may seem simple initially, but it quickly becomes a strategic fight for survival. A Unique Overdrive System Adds Strategy To the Simple Turn-Based FormulaĬombat in Chained Echoes is a unique take on turn-based combat. They also offer great information about the world and help with world-building. NPCs also provide plenty of good hints about hidden quests and treasures. There aren’t large portions of dialogue you have to read through, and the story moves at a quick pace which I appreciated as characters get to the point quickly. Sienna, who instantly became my favorite, is a quick-witted thief who is quick to judge and always points out the apparent kinks in the rest of the party’s plans. The writing is exceptional, and each character comes with their own quirks. The great world-building and characters kept me engaged for hours. Its a 8,5 for me so far. There is a lot to dissect in Chained Echoes story, which I was into from start to finish. I'm still really early in the game(it hasn't opened up yet), but this is worth every penny so far, if you reading this is still on the fence. Playing the game it is clearly that was done because it would likely mean either working a few more years on the game, and/or not having enough money to pay freelancer to make said scenes). Makes me wonder what the dev would be able to do with more money and manpower, since that's the clear bottleneck during the game's development(Some cool scenes just fades to black instead of playing out, and "completed" with the appropriate sounds, and having some very exciting scenes. The writing is great, though I'm sure there are a few grammar mistakes here and there.īut yeah, the combat system is great, the story is compelling so far, the progression system is interesting, and the presentation is good. Some battle animations should have been a bit slower to better process the attack, others should have a little more in it to notice the attack better(Some animations are really quiet and somewhat difficult to see that your attack has been deployed, for the first tries anyways). Presentation-wise, the animations are the weakest part(though still good).
